September Reading Wrap-up

🍂 September Reading Wrap-Up 🍂

September has been a month of dark thrills, unexpected love stories, and thought-provoking non-fiction. From unsettling psychological suspense and chilling cult mysteries to tender magical realism and sharp cultural critique, my reading pile took me on quite the ride. Some books gripped me with atmosphere, others left me questioning believability, and a few were simply unforgettable.

If you’re looking for your next read - whether it’s a haunting thriller, a cosy crime, or a book that makes you rethink modern life, you’ll find plenty of recommendations (and a couple of must-reads!) below.

Breadwinners: and other power imbalances that influence your life

In Breadwinners, award-winning science journalist Melissa Hogenboom examines the shifting dynamics of money, power, and love in modern relationships with clarity and depth. Drawing on extensive research and candid interviews, she reveals how entrenched gender norms continue to shape domestic life, even as society evolves, and offers thoughtful insights into how couples can build more equal and fulfilling partnerships. A timely and thought-provoking read.

Stand Out Indie

Every month, I highlight a stand-out indie book that deserves more attention, and this September, that spotlight goes to The Mannequins. From the very first page, it grips you with its chilling psychological suspense, vivid atmosphere, and unforgettable characters. Dark, layered, and utterly unputdownable, it’s the kind of debut that reminds us why indie authors continue to deliver some of the most thrilling reads out there. The Mannequins releases on 31st October, just in time for some spine-tingling autumn reading.

Whether you’re hunting for suspense, heart, or something completely unique, I hope this roundup gives you a few new titles to add to your TBR.

Stay tuned for next month’s picks and remember, the best stories are the ones you lose yourself in.
